Invisible Data

Knowledge-based approaches for countering Cyber and Technology Facilitated Gender-based violence against women

Cyber and technology facilitated domestic violence (CTFDV) is not well accounted for in the Bulgarian legislation, while academic and research evidence does not always adequately address the specificities of its manifestations in Bulgarian society.

“Invisible Data” aims to fill the gaps in research, civil society, and public spaces and lay the foundations for the identification and countering of CTFDV.

Objectives

“Invisible Data” aims to empower Bulgarian civil society to recognise, raise awareness, and push for meaningful change with respect to cyber and technologically facilitated domestic violence.

Expanding Capacity

Improve the ability of civil society organisations to recognise and address CTFDV

Unlock Insights

Provide meaningful and practical data collection tools for CSOs to generate CTFDV insights

Influence Policy

Develop impactful recommendations based on the data collected during the project

Raise Awareness

Provide public access to up-to-date, high-quality CTFDV data to enable stronger understanding, better policies, and deeper future research

Expected Results

“Invisible Data” is centred around four key outcomes that deliver value for practitioner CSOs, policymakers, the research community, and the public.

CTFDV Indicators

Robust CTFDV indicators facilitating recurring data collection targeted at practitioner CSOs that work with victims of domestic and gender-based violence

Practical Guidance

Interactive Handbook to help CSOs communicate about CTFDV online, raise awareness of scientific findings, and use low-cost and free enabling resources

Policy Recommendations

A selection of meaningful recommendations for improving the legal and institutional environment in Bulgaria for better protection of CTFDV victims

Public Database

Open platform to access CTFDV data and key findings from the “Invisible Data” project to support the work of CSOs, policymakers, researchers, and campaigners

Results

April – May 2025

Structured meetings with civil society representatives in Burgas, Haskovo, and Sofia to co-create the CTFDV Indicators, validate the methodological approach to data collection, and ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of data collection on the ground.

February 2026

A cross-sectoral final event to share the results of the “Invisible Data” project, exchange knowledge with CSOs working on CTFDV and related topics, promote positive changes to the legal and institutional environment, and support CSOs in networking, forming new alliances, and boosting their visibility.
